Historic Bondi House The Spirit Of Napier
In 1921 Charles Edwards purchased this beach side Villa for his second wife. Originally from Australia, Charles Edwards named the house ‘Bondi House’ which means High Water in Aboriginal, aptly named as prior to the quake in 1931, the ocean used to lap against the front fence.
Thought to have been built at the end of the late 19th century, Bondi House, has an Historic Places Trust, Category 2 rating due to its historical significance and as an example of an early 20th Century Villa renovation into a bungalow.
Its present owners have left the interior true to its historical origins and have restored the beautiful gleaming kauri floors, and returned the original colour scheme which were matched using old photographs.
The property features an oversized kauri entrance way which could be used as a study or sitting room. There are three large bedrooms, two of which have uninterrupted views out over the ocean to Cape Kidnappers and the third which has a beautiful built in Rimu full sized wardrobe.
